the broken glass is a work conceived and produced between austria and spain and represents the eleventh reference of the catalogue of stoerung label. in this collaboration field recordings and synthesis processed by asferico create cyclical and hypnotic structures, which mia zabelka furnishes with her violin and voice. the lp version consists of two versions of the piece, the first more minimalist and conceptual and the second more rhythmical and synthesizer based. through a display of distorted and isolated sounds, we are driven in the first version into an deep listening, as if sounds where placed under a microscope or we were contemplating them through a telescope. this approach lets us perceive the bare physicality of sounds in a way which enables us to grasp subtleties and aspects of sound which we are not used to. the second version continues where the first version left us, but in this piece, we are eventually flooded by hypnotic loops, white noise and synthesis and the experience has a different flavor. now what we have acquired through the first version, the enhancement of our listening and appreciation of subtleties of sounds, is inserted into a rhythmical structure which acts as a strong current, pulling us inside an ocean full of astonishing sounds.

in 2016. i rented out a small piano studio in east london for nearly the whole year and set out to write an introspective, trendless, and mostly beatless album. inspired by albums from this mortal coil and scott walker, who also sought freedom to work outside of the expectations of their previous work, i limited the instrumentation to mostly an acoustic piano and effects, which left space to expose a lot of emotional vulnerabilities about myself and people close to me. writing lullabies about being a mother in a dystopian world, with pensive words about swimming against the current as a female artist, i felt free enough to tell untold truths that i’ve never felt comfortable talking about within music. free, liberated, empowered. naked.

danny scrilla returns to cosmic bridge records with a full-length project inspired by a desire to experiment outside of club conventions. while cosmic bridge has become known for forward-thinking, dubwise dancefloor mutations, label founder om unit has long been a fan of ambient and synthesizer music and ancient musical box offers a current take on the format, with 16 tracks of lush electronic compositions and meditations. fittingly, ancient musical box also marks the label s first cassette release.

ancient musical box was written over the past year as a direct reaction to danny s frustration with club music and the inevitable cynicism that can sometimes arise from prolonged contact with scenes, styles, and genres. i wanted to create something without any ulterior motives, he explains. as the tracks accumulated, the project took on a personal dimension and therapeutic qualities. intent on not over-thinking or polishing his ideas, danny created something that is less album and more a collection of emotions in their rawest form.

despite not being intended for the dancefloor, the music on ancient musical box still bears clear relations to danny s catalogue in its minimalist approach and use of melodic motifs. you can hear it in the hazy crescendo of night sweats , the wobbly funk of pangalactic gargleblaster , and the gentle keys of talisman . alongside these are more experimental moments, seemingly fragile in their simplicity but hiding a depth that reveals itself in context: the delicate loops of the title track, the vibrations of cryopod , the melancholy progressions of too little too late .

bartellow has long been associated with the esp institute though tambien, a trio formed alongside bavarian cohorts marvin and valentino, who have released seminal dancefloor material over recent years. with his debut album panokorama, we are invited into a completely different world of bartellow s creation a place where influences become a melting pot of mood, nuance and texture, and where instrumentation is abstracted from a variety of cultures, including those that exist solely within his imagination. bartellow has found a way to merge primitivism with retrofuturism, identifying their point of intersection and reveling in their union across ten songs. while his academic background as a jazz musician certainly informs both his progressive approach to composition and non-linear production, it is his obsession with electronics and synthesis that shape his current musical climate. the title panokorama stems from bartellows visualization of the album, a surreal landscape with a foreign presence centrally embedded, a panorama punctuated by a ko, although a hybrid word that reads as nonsense, it somehow feels and sounds just right.

taking charge of the first release is lucy, who has evolved his distinct sound signature by reconciling the deeply personal with the esoteric, and by harmonizing the spheres of technology and biology. whether he is acting in the role of producer, dj, performer, or stroboscopic artefacts curator, lucys clear passion for creative evolution and mutation is something that continues to attract new listeners, and keeps giving his current supporters new reasons to continue tuning in. ep opener the hermit is eight minutes of spacious and cerebral techno. rolling drums are buried deep as little flecks of sound design peel off the groove. occasional bell hits bring a sombre and languid feel despite the drive of the drums, and it is the sort of perfectly absorbing track that will suck you down a 5am rabbit hole. on the flip, ‘the high priestess’ is a similarly mental work out that is empty and eerie, with distant drones and yawning pads outlining a vast underground space. the drums here are again rubbery and rolling, but a little more prominent, and the whole thing manages to be both soothing and unsettling. after this fine ep starts the label in style, a remix ep from blawan will follow.

over 3 years ago, casey tucker was thrust into the limelight after 15 years in the shadows. never truly getting the recognition for is detroit influenced and post rave sound in the 90s, for those that knoe reissued some of casey s classic material and unearthed some gems on dat in 2013. fast forward to the current day and a recent treasure trove was uncovered and some fresh dats untouched since the late 90s were discovered! ben promptly bought a dat player on ebay and shipped it to casey s home for the un-dusting to commence. fttk has worked with casey to present another round of authentic material spread across a further three eps. the track carpet dancer has been in demand since the fine balance recordings gained deserved attention. originally featuring as the a side on the very first fine balance ep, it evokes all of the emotions that caseys music can muster. juxtaposition is a slower groovy effort with meandering chords, trademark fizzy percussion and topped off with a lush string finale. whatever comes to mind rounds off the ep with a rolling percussive bassline, delicate arps and smooth sweeping pads.

overmono return to xl recordings with their second ep in march 2017. arla ii is the follow up to last year s debut arla ep and further crystallizes the duo s immense & innovative sound. this latest 6-tracker from ed & tom russell (known respectively for their solo tessela and truss projects) carries things forward from its predecessor in underscoring overmono as a fully formed & ongoing project. . nstead of searching for commonalities between their earlier individual work, overmono combines the russells artistic talents in order to reach the spaces between ambient, techno & uk hardcore dynamics that few current acts are capable of reaching. born of the brothers collective creative impulse and staking out its own defined place in the contemporary landscape of electronic music, overmono are firmly amongst those pushing the form into new and exciting places. all of this is now also being explored in a live setting. having made their debut at krakow s experimental electronic music festival, unsound in october 2016, overmono will be performing a number of live and dj dates throughout 2017.

klamauk is back and ready to drop their first release of 2017 with this excellent cut from moony me. the austrian artist has already turned heads with a string of quality records dropping since 2012 and this current release is up to his usual high standards channelling deep, sample driven house vibes. the ep opens with “city of storms”, a knowing nod to soulful chicago and a lovely iron curtis rework that seriously does the business. over on the flip we have “puzzle shuffle” which packs lots of energy with the main hook, and will surely be a hit on the dancefloor. for “glass jungle chant” moony me uses a lighter touch with intricate live percussion, lovely chords and a squelchy sub bass.

air cushion finishsdistinctive sound palette reconciles pop music with experimental electronics, think alan bishop meets white noise (with a touch of super collider?) air cushion finish formed in berlin in 2007 and comprises of composer jayrope and natural vocal synthesizer lippstueck, who have graced berlin’s underground scene together since the 1990 s. lippstueck sings, wordless and backwards in time while his partner jayrope tends diy, electronic, string or percussion instruments small enough to fit into a small suitcase. changing setup and subsequently music is programmatic to the band, resulting into an unforeseeable slow motion cacophony of whispers, bleeps, rhythms and harmonies. theres a notion of dada, but you never know. the 8th album of acf marks their current state of poetical accident, swaying, swinging and bouncing, boldly careful, like a transparent tattoo on your forehead.

for the fifth release vanila goes vanilla, this time with the debut ep from the athenian artist expropriation. “expropriate while u can” and “poza putana” are two long and slow trips, that perfectly fit in the current filthy mood of the greek capital.

reaching our 100th release seems surreal. i started it with 50 bucks and a defiant attitude to release music i felt wasn’t repped elsewhere. the label has grown into a renegade family, and worldwide techno brand. proud of every single achievement and mistake we have made, we felt it fitting to gather a selection of our favorite artists and showcase our vision on the current state of classic modern techno. here s to another 10000. octopus for life.

after a very successful label launch last year with in aeternam vale - “self destruct” ep, linda records returns with another straight talking, analog fuelled 10”. this time welcoming aboard berlin based russian artist alexey volkov. his three track ep “cold blooded genius” comes finely presented on transparent red ten inch vinyl (limited pressing). whilst staying true to its current white label feel, this time linda s trademark eyes, also a fitting red. on the a side at 45rpm the title track “cold blooded genius” and on the b side two tracks will spin at 33rpm, “unfriendly nation” & “curtains of flesh”. we hate to categorise and attempt to summarise what these pieces of music craft sound like into words, we’ll leave you to indulge for a short time to the machine noise of the highly regarded talent that is alexey volkov.
